Behind the Scenes of a Seahawks portrait
03.11.11
Each person I shoot is unique, and the process of interacting with my subjects to try and figure out how best to illustrate their personality/qualities, is very exciting to me. I have covered the Seattle Seahawks football team for the past two... The night before the shoot, I had the idea of illuminating the deep green-colored turf to add a bit of color, and then placing Bryant somewhere in that scene for the photo. For a recent story on defensive end Red Bryant, who is one of the team’s bright spots in what has been a difficult season, I decided to change things up and make the portrait on the indoor practice field. Even up to the time of the actual shoot, I was not sure what his pose was going to be, nor how the photo was to ‘look’. Out of all the types of photography I am lucky enough to do in my profession, I find the most pleasure in shooting portraits. Up to this point, all of my other player portraits were done in a studio type of setting with a backdrop.
